The biggest story out of Angels camp this spring is the contract extension of superstar center fielder Mike Trout. Twenty two year old Trout is widely regarded as the best young player in Major League Baseball. The speculation is that the Angels want to keep Trout for than long haul and are willing to make him one of the highest paid players in the history of the sport. So coming into spring training there were a lot of rumors regarding the supposed mega deal.
In the first spring training press conference Trout was asked about the contract extension and responded by saying that he just wants to baseball and is not overly concerned about his contract at the moment. He also made sure to tell reporters that he does not want his contract to become a distraction to himself or his teammates and that he is focused on bringing a championship to Los Angeles.
A week later Angels signed Trout to a one year one million dollar extension to quell talks about the large deal for the rest of the season. This extension is the largest ever for a player before salary arbitration. This deal might foreshadow a larger one to come.
